What a wrong-sized system actually costs you
The fastest way to end up with a bad air conditioner is to size the new one off what was there before instead of off the house itself. An oversized unit blasts the room down to temperature and shuts off before it has run long enough to actually pull humidity out of the air, so the house reads cold on the thermostat and clammy everywhere else. That short-cycling also means the compressor is starting and stopping far more than it should, which shortens its life well before its rated years are up.
In a Saline County summer, that humidity problem is not a minor comfort complaint. A system that never runs a full cycle cannot dehumidify properly no matter how low the thermostat is set, and homeowners notice it as a house that feels cold and damp at the same time.

How we size and install it right
We size new systems with a Manual J style load calculation run against your actual house, not a rule of thumb based on square footage or whatever tonnage was already installed. Insulation, window count, orientation and duct condition all change the number, and getting it right is what keeps the new system from short-cycling on day one.
We also check the line set before assuming it can be reused. An old line set with a contaminated or corroded run is a bad foundation for a new condenser, whatever the equipment brand. The coil and condenser get matched to hit the rated SEER2 efficiency together, evacuation goes to a deep vacuum before the system is charged so no moisture or air is trapped in the refrigerant lines, and the unit goes down on a new pad, set level, before it ever runs a cycle.
